The causes of obstetric fistulae are obstructed labor, direct tear during delivery, and abortion. However, the condition may occur in the presence of several risk factors. The aim of this case-control study, conducted between January 1, 2009 and September 31, 2011, at the Yaoundé University Teaching Hospital was to identify the risk factors for developing obstetric fistula among Cameroonian women.

Information from this study will help reproductive and public health actors campaign for measures, such as training of personnel, to prevent obstetric fistula.
